Changing Your Superannuation Fund

Friday January 9, 2009

There are many things to keep in mind when changing to a new superannuation fund. The first and foremost thing to remember is to transfer your money from your previous superannuation fund and to make sure you have done so from any other previously held superannuation fund. It may seem obvious, but many people who change their superannuation fund along with a job may not be paying enough attention to their superannuation fund yet in order to check that all of their money is going toward their new superannuation fund.

Next, be sure to tell your employer as soon as possible that you have changed to a new superannuation fund. You should not delay in doing this. The hassle that could result from your employer putting your superannuation into an older fund or trying to do so just isn't worth going through.

Be sure to familiarise yourself with anything you have not come across before. For new types of superannuation funds that you have no prior experience with especially, you should go over any extra features of your superannuation fund as well as the fee schedules for performing certain actions.
