How Will You Spend Your Retirement?
Wednesday December 10, 2008
When planning how much you need in your superannuation fund, make sure you have prepared to do something in retirement. You will likely go from having something that occupies your time for at least 8 hours per day, 5 day per week plus transport time to having pretty much all the time you like. The problem with working is that it can make you so tired that the idea of resting for a few years without doing anything much sounds great.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, as the case may be), you will likely want to do more with your life after just a few months out of work. If you didn't plan for that before retirement, you may not have enough in your superannuation fund to both get by and entertain yourself. This is why it is important to know more than just how a superannuation fund works, which types of superannuation funds charge the lowest fees and whether master trusts can benefit you - you also need to know what you will do beyond surviving in retirement so that you can prepare financially.
